Traffic in Bengalooru (I personally prefer this over Bengaluru) is getting worse by the minute.
We have heard enough 'noise' about Bengalooru's public infrastructure not catching up with private infrastructure growth. Even though there is an element of Truth in that, some introspection would reveal that motorists have huge hugely contributed to the degradation over the years.
I really miss the Bengalooru of old (even as late as the year 2000) where people used to have decent road manners. Though traffic rules were not followed to the 'T', you would come across a lot of 'Co-operative driving'. The traffic 'culture', if I could all it that, has changed quite a bit since.
Back then, you would never see two-wheelers on foot-paths. Now, you not only 'see' them but also 'hear' them, and hear them quite loud as well. Can't quite believe that people have the gall to ride on footpaths and then honk at pedestrians!!
Jumping traffic signals in the absence of a cop would not be one's favourite past-time then, and so would not be switching to the opposite traffic lane if your lane was jammed.
Until and unless there comes about a change in this 'Culture', just improving public infrastructure would definitely not help in a big way.
